Behind the camera
His photography helped open and unveil the eyes of thousands of Americans, the truth that America wasn’t as amazing as they thought it was. His work was that of child labor, Lewis received many threats in order for him to stop taking pictures of the children immediately. Why? Well because the factory police and foremen didn’t want to lose their “employers” since they were all small and didn't have much knowledge on anything. He had to use disguises in order to be allowed into the factories to shoot and document the unfair treatment, wages, and age regimens. All of this helped and boosted the idea that children shouldn’t be working but playing and learning. This revealed how the lower class had to struggle that they even had to have their children work in order to thrive and live in America.

Lewis Hines work is different from others because all he shot were portraits to help reform society, he also didn't mind snapping pictures of strangers because all of his work is that of a stranger's face. He didn't have family to help him and encourage him but he still strived and became a famous photographer.
